About Us

Join the Baypoint family every Sunday morning at 9am for worship and the word with old friends, new friends and your family. We would love to have you!

Here at Baypoint, it is our passion to help create disciples of Jesus Christ. We want fellow Christ followers to have a solid foundation in faith so that they, in turn, can speak into the lives of others.

To make disciples who will be equipped to help transform the world.

We believe the Bible, composed of the Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired and infallible word of God. It is our desire to speak into the lives of the churched and unchurched, to help people become stronger in their faith, stronger as a family and stronger with their walk and worship with God Almighty.

Church History

Church History as told in, For Love of God, The First 100 Years plus Twenty-Five by Dorothy A. Carpenter

The church was founded in 1868 by Jesse Knight, a pioneer and early settler in Nokomis, FL. He paved the way for the longevity of the church through his teaching of Christ to his family and residents, his gift of land for a church and school in the community and his craftsman skills to help build the church-school with his hands. The church was destroyed in the 1926 Florida hurricane, but was rebuilt and has since underwent expansion, remodeling and improvement.

100 years later the church became known as the Venice-Nokomis United Methodist Church and remains a historical fixture for people to worship, further their spiritual journey and join a welcoming community.

Celebrating 150+ years, Bay Point Church is believed to be the oldest religious organization in the territory and community. John Guerre became pastor of the church in 2015 and brings joy, laughter and a passion to connect with the church community through his weekly messages and sermon addresses.

Pastor John Guerre

John Guerre

“There is no greater thrill in my life than to build a biblically balanced, fully functional missional community. This is my calling and I love every minute of it!”

Pastor John gave his life to Christ as a 10-year-old in a new church that was meeting Sunday nights in a firehall. This was his call into ministry, although it was a few years after that he grasped this message from the Lord. He grew up in the Pittsburgh area as a lover of all of its sports teams, especially the Steelers and Penguins.

With a vision to build a biblically balanced, fully functional, missional community that equips the saints, wins the lost, and changes the world, John joined Bay Point as Pastor in 2015. John’s pastoral strategy consists of these guiding principles that, by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, will carry out his vision:

  • Biblical preaching and teaching of the “full counsel of God—in season and out of season”
  • Develop the behaviors of a “Level 5” leader:
    • Share an inspired vision
    • Model the way
    • Challenge the status quo
    • Enable others to act
    • Encourage the heart

Pastoral service brings extreme joy to Pastor John, and Bay Point members feel his joy and passion through his sermons and messages. Delivered in a meaningful yet fun and joyous manner, Pastor John delivers the word of the Bible and enables the growth of the church of Jesus Christ. Join Pastor John at his next service; you’ll have some fun!
