Church History

Church History as told in, For Love of God, The First 100 Years plus Twenty-Five by Dorothy A. Carpenter

The church was founded in 1868 by Jesse Knight, a pioneer and early settler in Nokomis, FL. He paved the way for the longevity of the church through his teaching of Christ to his family and residents, his gift of land for a church and school in the community and his craftsman skills to help build the church-school with his hands. The church was destroyed in the 1926 Florida hurricane, but was rebuilt and has since underwent expansion, remodeling and improvement.

100 years later the church became known as the Venice-Nokomis United Methodist Church and remains a historical fixture for people to worship, further their spiritual journey and join a welcoming community.

Celebrating 150+ years, Bay Point Church is believed to be the oldest religious organization in the territory and community. John Guerre became pastor of the church in 2015 and brings joy, laughter and a passion to connect with the church community through his weekly messages and sermon addresses.
