The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.
It is “normal” to feel uncomfortable when things change. God can give you peace, security, and wisdom to navigate during these times. This scripture mentions the word Shield. When I hear the word shield I think of Captain America and the Avengers. But in David’s day, a shield was a significant part of being protected in battle. He might even have thought of all the times when a shield had protected him from his literal enemy in battle. How great a metaphor that is for the strength and protection of God!
You probably haven’t led an army to battle, but you have needed – or still need – the courage to face the challenges that come your way. David understands, even though his situations were so much different than yours. He turned to his true source of help: God. If the changes you are facing or the changes in the world around you make you feel like things are broken, know that God is the only ONE we can turn to who has the power and the ability to heal and bring wholeness – true peace.
Only God is powerful enough to offer that kind of protection and security. Do you need wisdom to help you navigate life? Imagine if we could get to the point in our relationship with God where we could say, or even sing the words that David wrote in Psalm 18:2 and mean them as much as David did when he wrote them.
We still might not like what is going on in the world today, but we have peace, security, and wisdom to face it with God’s help! Our True Source! Our True SHIELD!
