Jesus’ Mission Matters Therefore Our Church Must Grow

SCRIPTURE: Luke 19:10

I have come to seek and save the lost.

OBSERVATION:
Jesus Christ, the Son of God and God the Son, our Lord and Savior, Leader and Forgiver, made it crystal clear what his mission was. He was going dedicate the bulk of his time, talent, and treasure to search for folks who were far from his Father (because of their sinful and deathward ways) and bring them into a reconciled and dynamic relationship with him. All people, no matter who they were, where they were, or who they have been with! His plethora of parables, including the Lost Sheep, Lost Silver Coin, and Lost Son (remember that prodigal kid) and those teachings regarding the sufferings of the least, last, lost, and lonely, all pointed to Jesus’ burning hot passion for his mission.

APPLICATION:
Our marching orders from heavenly HQs, a.k.a. the Great Commission is to bring people to Christ (outreach) and help them to become like Christ (discipleship). Dedication to this co-mission (co meaning his and ours) has been, is, and always will be, hallmark of any church that hangs a cross in its sanctuary or atop of its steeple. One of the best ways we can individually engage our Lord’s mission and simultaneously grow our church (which by the way is necessary, not optional) is to pray and invite.
Since we all know and love people who are far from God and need Jesus, let’s do a simple three-step exercise: (1) Write their names down, (2) Pray for them daily, and (3) When the HS prompts lovingly invite them to come to church with you. Remember, Jesus’ mission matters, always matters, therefore our church must grow!

PRAYER: Lord God:
Give us red-hot passion for your mission so that we might get tremendous amounts of new people for you. For their sakes, our joy, and your glory, Amen!
